ABSTRACT

Retirement. . .

Howard H. Olson, Professor of Animal Science, after 35 years of service reared from the College of Agriculture at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (SIUC).

Olson joined the SIUC agriculture faculty as Assistant Professor of Dairy Husbandry in 1954. He received his B.S. degree in dairy science from the University of Wisconsin and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in dairy husbandry from the University of Minnesota.

Olson's teaching experience includes animal production with emphasis on dairy science, reproductive physiology, international animal agriculture, and management. His research has centered around international development and dairy cattle production with special emphasis on feeding and reproductive performance. He helped pioneer the use of complete feeds for dairy cattle.

In 1979, he was named to head the Office of International Agriculture at SIUC. His international experience included traveling to Egypt and Sri Lanka as a Fulbright lecturer and to India through the Peace Corps as a trainer and coordinator. Additionally, he has been to Zambia and to Pakistan to work on two projects sponsored by the College of Agriculture where he was management team member and instructor.
