Opening Session

ABSTRACT

The Opening Session of the 84th Annual Meeting of the American Dairy Science Association and the 81st Annual Meeting of the American Society of Animal Science was held on Monday, July 31, 1989, at the Rupp Arena, Lexington, Kentucky. The Stephen Foster Singers presented entertainment prior to the speakers. C. Oran Little, Dean of the College of Agriculture, University of Kentucky, presented the invocation. Bobby D. Moser, ASAS President, and H. H. Van Horn, ADSA President, presided. After an introduction by Virgil W. Hays, Chairman, Department of Animal Science, University of Kentucky, David P. Rosell, President, University of Kentucky, and Ward Burnett, Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, gave welcoming remarks. The keynote address, "Nutrition and Degenerative Disease", was given by David Kritchevsky (shown above), Associate Director, Wistar Institute, Philadelphia, PA. Kritchevsky's talk, and his humorous songs on the piano, were enjoyed by all.
