ABSTRACT

Awards and Honors...

Elmer H. Marth, a food microbiologist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, received the Laboratorian of the Year Award at the annual meeting of the Wisconsin Laboratory Association.

Marth, Professor of Food Science, has contributed to four editions of Standard Methods for the Examination of Dairy Products as well as to the second edition of the Compendium of Methods for the Microbiological Examination of Foods. He coauthored two laboratory manuals in microbiology, and authored or coauthored more than 500 scientific publications based on laboratory research.

Marth helped to develop methods for detecting aflatoxin M1, Listeria monocytogenes, and certain enzymes in bacteria. He edited the Journal of Food Protection from 1967 to 1987, and he has trained numerous graduate students, most of whom now perform or supervise laboratory work.

Robert J. Collier has been appointed a Senior Fellow in Monsanto Company's program to recognize those individuals making significant, continuing technical contributions to the company and to their specific disciplines.
