ABSTRACT
The United States of America became a member country of the International Dairy Federation (IDF) a short time ago. Before then, delegates to the annual sessions of IDF had met representatives from the US dairy industry over many years, and the International Dairy Congresses, now held every 4 yr, have benefited greatly from participation of experts from the US. The aim of IDF is "to promote, through international cooperation, the solution of scientific, technical and economic problems in the international dairy field."
The membership of IDF, formed in 1903, comprises 35 countries. At the annual sessions held in a different member country each year the work undertaken by expert groups appointed by national committees is reviewed in the appropriate commission: A — production, hygiene, and quality of milk, B — technology and engineering, C — economics, marketing and management, D — legislation, compositional standards, classification and terminology, E — analytical standards, laboratory techniques, F — science and education.
