ABSTRACT

Awards and Honors. . .

Utah State University's (USU) Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences has received a $200,000 deferred gift to establish the William C. Winder and Rebecca Stewart Winder Endowed Development Professorship.

William C. Winder III is one of USU's outstanding graduates. His B.S. and M.S. degrees were obtained from USU in dairy manufacturing, and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Rebecca Stewart Winder also attended USU.

William Widner was a pioneer in use of ultrasound to determine the fat and solids content of milk. He also was responsible for greatly improving the flavor quality, body, and texture of ice cream. His research always had practical application to the dairy industry. Winder was also an excellent teacher, and he received the Milk Industry Foundation Teaching Award of the American Dairy Science Association in 1967.

The new professorship will be approximately 25% teaching and 75% research with an emphasis on food chemistry, food bacteriology, or food engineering.
