ABSTRACT

Chancellor Everhart, Director of Agriculture Werries, Dean Campbell, Dr. Gomes, Dr. Johnson, other distinguished members of the platform delegation, and members and friends. I have feelings of both pride and humility as I stand before you this evening: pride, as I ponder the great tradition and accomplishments of this organization; humility, as I recall the courageous, dedicated, and visionary leaders of the past and, as we have been made aware this year, the fragility of life itself. But together we can make this meeting and the future of ADSA an exciting adventure.

On behalf of the members of ADSA I express thanks and appreciation to our hosts here at the University of Illinois, especially to the faculty and staff of the Dairy Science Department and the Food Science Department, for inviting us to hold this 80th annual meeting at the University of Illinois. Any of us who have helped host such a meeting have an appreciation for the time and effort required, not only by staff members but also spouses and family members.
