Awards and Honor. . .
James F. Cavanaugh, who retired July 1, 1985, as executive secretary of The American Jersey Cattle Club (AJCC) and National All- Jersey Inc. (NAJ), is the 35th recipient of the AJCC Distinguished Service Award. The award is made annually by the AJCC to a member who has rendered outstanding and unselfish service for many years and thereby made a notable contribution to the advancement of the Jersey breed in the US. Cavanaugh's career of service meets th.ese criteria. Born and raised on a Kansas dairy and wheat farm Cavanaugh graduated in 1942 from Kansas State College. Summer employment during college years included showing Guernseys and Jerseys, check testing for Kansas State College, and writing for Hoard's Dairyman.
After discharge from the Army Air Corps in September 1946, Cavanaugh returned to the staff of Hoard's Dairyman as an associate editor. He joined the AJCC in December 1947 as assistant secretary.
