ABSTRACT

Awards and Honors...

Joe W. West has been named recipient of a Tom Slick Graduate Research Fellowship at Texas A&M University, College Station. The Tom Slick Graduate Research Fellowship is awarded to outstanding graduate students within the College of Agriculture and provides financial support for their research training. The research should be relevant to the agriculture of southwest Texas and must be conducted in the state of Texas. Recipients are chosen based on scholastic achievement as well as prior research achievements.

West, a graduate student in dairy nutrition under Carl E. Coppock, has been working toward the Ph.D. degree since September 1982 when he entered Texas A&M with a Lechner Merit Fellowship. From September 1983 to the present, he has served as a graduate assistant — research and teaching — in the Department of Animal Science.

West, a native of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, lived and worked on his parents' Holstein dairy farm during his undergraduate education at Middle Tennessee State University where he received a B.S. degree in 1976.
