Claude Cruse, Executive Secretary of the American Dairy Science Association since 1966, died suddenly on April 15, 1985, in Champaign, Illinois. Hehad been associated with the printing of the Journal of Dairy Science and later in the management of our Association for most of his working career.
In the words of our former historian, G.Malcolm Trout, establishment of the office of Executive Secretary in 1966 has been "the one most significant event in the recent history of the Association." Unquestionably, ADSA has greatly benefited from having a permanent headquarters and a full-time manager, but it was the competence, vision, and dedication of Claude Cruse that provided the main ingredients of success.
A native of Monticello, Illinois, Claude Cruse served in the army during World War II and the Korean conflict. His civilian career started with the Twin City Printing Company and Garrard Press, later known as the R. F. Colwell Printing Corporation of Champaign, Illinois. while working in the department of production and publication service, he became exposed to the field of association management.
