Memorial—Richard F. Davis

ABSTRACT

Richard F. Davis, 60, died suddenly at his home January 3, 1985, of a heart attack. At the time of his death, Davis was associate to the provost, Division of Agricultural and Life Sciences, University of Maryland, College Park.

In 1954, Davis came to the University of Maryland as an assistant professor in the Dairy Science Department. He was named associate professor and head of the department in 1956. He gained the rank of full professor in 1958. A native of Keene, New Hampshire, Davis majored in agriculture at the University of New Hampshire and received the B.S. degree in 1950. Two years later he added the M.S. degree in animal nutrition and physiology at Cornell University. Cornell awarded Davis his Ph.D. degree in 1953 and appointed him assistant professor. For 3 years Davis served as project leader for Maryland's Extension Project Ill, Agriculture. In 1981, Davis was named associate to the provost, Division of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
