What College Administrators Expect of Department Heads1

J. R. Campbell, Dean

College of Agriculture, University of Illinois, Urbana 61801

ABSTRACT

The department is the basic operating unit in academe. It is where faculty function and the unit with which students, alumni, and clientele groups identify.

Characteristics and responsibilities of effective departmental administrative officers, as well as college administrators' expectations of and working relationships with them, are discussed.
