Robert Scott Allen, professor and former head of the Department of Biochemistry at Louisiana State University, died May 29, 1984.
Allen was born November 13, 1917, in Tabiona, Utah. At age 5 he moved to Provo, Utah, where he remained until 1940. He lived in Ames, Iowa, for 26 years and in Baton Rouge for 17 years. Alien received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in 1939 and 1940, respectively, in chemistry trom Bngham Young University. He received the Sigma Xi Award for his Master's thesis. He earned his Ph.D. degree in biochemistry from Iowa State College at Ames in 1949.
At Iowa State University, Allen served as assistant (1949 to 1954), then associate professor of chemistry and animal husbandry (1954 to 1957). He was full professor of chemistry and animal science (1957 to 1960) and of biochemistry and of animal science (1960 to 1967). He was also chairman of the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics (1960 to 1963).
