Memorial—P. T. Dix Arnold

ABSTRACT

P. T. Dix Arnold professor emeritus in dairy science, University of Florida, following a career at the University from 1931 to 1959, died February 22, 1983; he was 81.

Arnold was born in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. He was reared in Manatee County, Florida, moved to Gainesville in 1931, and then to Dowling Park in 1982. Arnold graduated from Cornell University in 1924 with a degree in agriculture. He received his Master of Science degree at the University of Florida under M. W. Emmel.

Arnold supervised operations with the University dairy herd continually. He taught the senior course "Dairy Cattle and Milk Production" he fourth edition of Dairy Cattle and Milk Production by C. H. Eckles and submitted suggestions to E. L. Anthony for the revised fifth edition. He participated in research with digestion trials of dried grapefruit and orange pulps, comparing the former with dried beet pulp, then accepted in Florida as a standard feed. Dried citrus pulp was available locally and was fully equal without the expense of transportation.
