Roscoe J. Baker, professor of dairy microbiology at South Dakota State University at Brookings, has retired after 32 years with the University.
Baker received his B.S. degree in dairy industry and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in dairy bacteriology from Iowa State University in 1942, 1947, and 1950, respectively. He joined South Dakota State University in 1950 as an assistant professor and was promoted to full professor in 1958. He was coach of the SDSU Dairy Products Judging Team from 1954 to 1971, winning three national intercollegiate Dairy Products Contests in 1966, 1968, and 1969.
Baker is an active membe of the American Dairy Science Association and has served on many Association committees. He is also a member of the Institute of Food Technologists, American Societ for Microbiology, International Association of Milk Food and Environmental Sanitarians, ad the South Dakota Environmental Health Association. He is a member of Sigma Xi, Gamma Sigma Delta, and Phi Lambda Epsilon.
