The first big event of fall quarter, as always, was the fall barbecue, a good excuse for food and drink, but the purpose was to get old and new members acquainted and to attract new members. We invited all the faculty of the Animal and Dairy Science Departments and their families. A crowd of 60 consumed, with much delight, a meal of barbecued chicken, cole slaw, potato chips, soft drinks, and various dairy desserts. In spite of full stomachs, we had a good turnout for the subsequent volleyball game.
The highlight of the year was an educational dairy science display at a local mall. This product of a club brainstorm brought a live cow and her calf and a wealth of information to the community in an effort to acquaint local residents with dairying and our club. This novel event even prompted the formation of a University Foundation to allow members of the community to help fund further projects.
