ABSTRACT

Awards and Honors... Joe T. Cardwell is the 1982 recipient of the Honors Award of the Southern Division of the American Dairy Science Association. He was selected from a list of outstanding nominees for his continuing distinguished contributions to the dairy industry through teaching, research, and service.

The recipient, born February 19, 1922 is a native of Wilbarger County, TX. He holds the B.S. and M.S. degrees from Texas Tech College and the Ph.D. degree from North Carolina State University. while working towards these degrees and between degrees, he held positions as Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) tester and dairy plant worker, US Air Force mechanic and instrument specialist, teacher of a veterans vocational school, instructor in dairy manufacturing, and graduate assistant.

During his approximately 30 years on the faculty of Mississippi State University, Cardwell has been a productive researcher and an inspiring teacher. In research an early contribution involved development of a practical procedure for detecting the addition of reconstituted nonfat dry milk in fluid milk.
