ABSTRACT
Because measurements of milk composition are generated from other direct measures, mathematical relationships underly them. These have been demonstrated for several, but not all, relationships of interest for milk composition. No new mathematical concepts are required for their development. Expected values were obtained by the moment generating function of multivariate normal distribution. Shown are means, variances, and covariances of various combinations of milk yield. specific gravity, and percents fat, protein, solids-not-fat, and lactose-mineral. Results are applicable to genetic and phenotypic parameters.
