Catherine Ann Ricks has been appointed group leader, nutrition and physiology, agricultural research division, American Cyanamid. In her new position, Ricks will supervise a nutrition and physiology research group working toward discovery of new products for improving livestock production.
A native of Lewes, Sussex, England, Ricks received her B.S. and M.S. degrees at King's College, London University, and her Ph.D. at Michigan State University. At Michigan State University, Ricks was a research assistant involved in research of ruminant biochemistry. Ricks joined American Cyanamid in 1979 as a research nutritional biochemist studying methods of improving production of ruminant animals and most recently was senior research biologist supervising studies on active leads for improving meat production. Ricks is a member of the American Dairy Science Association.
Kent K. Stewart has been appointed head, Department of Food Science and Technology, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg. Stewart is internationally recognized for his studies on laboratory automation and on the nutrient composition of foods. His research interests include studies on the development and application of analytical chemical techniques for solutions to food and nutrition problems, the automation of analytical laboratories, and the naturally occurring toxic constituents of foods.
