ABSTRACT

Call for Papers

A call for papers is issued for an ASTM Symposium "Terminology: The Cornerstone of Global Communications through Standards," to be held during the ASTM meeting the week of June 21, 1982 in Toronto, Canada. The program is sponsored by the ASTM Standing Committee on Terminology.

The purpose of the 1982 event is to provide a forum for the review and discussion of basic principles and methodologies in the preparation and use of standard terminology by both man and machines.

The symposium organizing committee explained the aims of this symposium are to improve the quality of terminology, to establish the basis for terms in emerging fields, and to harmonize terminology in standards activities throughout the world. Standard vocabularies or terms are a necessity for universal understanding of communication, whether they be between man, man and machine, or machine and machine. They are also the base for new languages and emerging technological fields.
