ABSTRACT
Conclusion: This review of progress in dairy cattle improvement and genetics in the last 25 yr was not intended to be all-inclusive but rather to review estimation of genetic parameters, procedures in genetic evaluation of sires and cows, mating systems, selection response, economic aspects of selection, and a short section on physiological traits. While much progress has been made in these continually important areas of research in the last 25 yr, there is much yet to be done. Let us hope that those who assume this charge in the next 25 yr will approach these challenges with as much enthusiasm and success as their predecessors.
