Holstein-Friesian Association of America, Brattleboro, VT 05301
ABSTRACT
There are six older officially recognized dairy breed organizations in the United States. They serve the needs and interests of breeders of Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein (Friesian), Jersey, and Milking Shorthorn.
The six breed organizations are listed alphabetically in accordance with the official name of each in the reference section under Annual Reports for 1979: Ayrshire Breeders' Association, Brandon, VT; American Guernsey Cattle Club, Peterborough, NH; American Jersey Cattle Club, Columbus, OH; American Milking Shorthorn Society, Springfield, MO; Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders' Association of America, Beloit, WI; and Holstein-Friesian Association of America, Brattleboro, VT. The headquarters location of each of the organizations is more the result of circumstance and subsequent cost-effective studies than design or preplanning. Their respective locations, however, are of no effective consequence in the conduct of their business or their service to members. Improved transportation and communications explain this fact.
In many ways the history of the dairy breed organizations in the United States over the past century is a story of the evolution of the dairy industry in the country.
