Dairy Herd Improvement Associations

ABSTRACT

A 75-yr history of the development of Dairy Herd Improvement Associations in the United States includes early cow testing efforts, involvement of the American Dairy Science Association, and activities of Cooperative Extension Service and United States Department of Agriculture personnel. Changes in organizational structure, improvement in methods and equipment, and expanding uses of data are documented. Enrollment and production improvement data are summarized.
