ABSTRACT

Virginia Tech

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (more popularly known as Virginia Tech) was founded in 1872. Today, Virginia Tech's student body numbers approximately 20,000 including 3,000 graduate students. Women are about one-third of the student body and about 380 students are in the coeducational Corps of Cadets.

Bachelor's degrees are offered in seven academic colleges, with approximately 102 undergraduate students enrolled in Dairy Science and 36 undergraduates in Food Science and Technology. Dairy Science majors may elect options in production-management, science, or pre-veterinary medicine. During the last 10 years, 70% of the Dairy Science graduates have returned to the home dairy farm or have accepted managment positions on dairy farms.

Graduate work is offered through the Graduate School in 65 fields of study on the master's level, including Dairy Science and Food Science and Technology, and in 40 leading to the doctorate. The Ph.D. is available through both departments.
