ABSTRACT

Stanley N. Gaunt was recently honored by Milk Promotion Services, Inc. at the company's annual meeting. Gaunt was awarded a plaque in appreciation of many years of outstanding and dedicated service to the dairy industry.

Gaunt has been a pioneer and leader in the development of artificial breeding in the US. He helped develop the artificial breeding association in Litchfield County, CT; the organization and operation of the Massachusetts Selective Breeding Association; and the mergers of state organizations into a New England Selective Breeding Association and later into the Eastern Artificial Breeding Cooperative. In 1946, he developed a monthly extension publication, "The Massachusetts Dairy Digest", of which he has been the editor. He assisted with the development of a cooperative livestock auction in western Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Purebred Dairy Cattle Association, and the New England Feed Conference. He was a Fulbright Scholar in Denmark and lecturer in eight European countries.
