ABSTRACT

August E. Branding, an associate professor of dairy science at The Pennsylvania State University, will retire June 30.

Branding has been active in numerous research projects within the Department of Dairy and Animal Science since his arrival at the university as a graduate assistant in 1961. Production of methane gas from animal wastes has been one of his major studies. Others have featured milking center waste management, including recycling water for cleaning purposes and separation of solid and liquid wastes, and studies of energy recovery systems in the dairy farm operation. One of his most vital research reports, "Mechanical Feeders for Stall Barns," was published in 1973 in cooperation with Howard D. Bartlett of Pennsylvania State. "Milking Center Waste Management" was a report established in 1975 in cooperation with Bartlett and Larry F. Marriott, both of the University. In 1977, he reported on "Experiences from Operating a Full Size Anaerobic Digester (Methane Gas)."
