ABSTRACT

Ernie Zehner retired on July 1, 1979, from the position of herdsman for the dairy cattle of the Dairy Science Department at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, a position he held for forty years. Zehner was granted emeritus status by the Board of Regents upon retirement.

Ernie came to Wisconsin from Ohio State University. He was encouraged to come by E. E. Heizer as he took over the chairmanship of the newly formed Dairy Science Department. Zehner had the direct responsibility for breeding, feeding, and management of the University dairy herd representing five of the dairy breeds. The herd is intensively used for research and instructional activities.

The University of Wisconsin has announced four staff appointments.

Danny P. Kaiser has joined the Extension Dairy Science staff as a youth specialist. Kaiser will administer and develop the 4-H and youth dairy programs, and he will prepare educational materials and programs for youth, leaders, and agents.
