ABSTRACT
Volume 61 of the Journal of Dairy Science resembled Volume 60 in number of pages (2284), but these were distributed differently with fewer scientific reports (258 vs. 277). There were less research papers and technical notes but more symposia and contributions to Our Industry Today (Table 1).
Numbers of manuscripts submitted were 347, 353, and 352 for 1976 to 1978. Rejections increased only slightly, and a few more papers were retained by authors. But the explanation of decreased publication probably is in the increased days for processing at every stage. Authors were slower in returning manuscripts by a week, and review took about 4 days longer. Editing and composing were not as rapid. Efforts toward the joint annual meeting with ASAS and other unusual events at the national office like changes in personnel and movement to the new office affected speed of publication. All of these interrupted our decreasing time to publication to the extent that papers published in 1978 were in the process a month longer than those printed in 1977.
