ABSTRACT
A 1966 Conference on Teaching in the Animal Sciences is reviewed. The working group in animal genetics at that conference concluded sufficient instructional materials had not been developed and illustrative and problem-solving material was needed to enhance instruction. The author believes the need has not been met during the decade which has elapsed since that conference. As a step toward providing better teaching materials, the author proposes the American Dairy Science Association join forces with the Poultry Science Association and American Society of Animal Science to develop a Sourcebook of Exercises for Animal Breeding. The sourcebook would be a comprehensive collection of exercises but would not prescribe a course of study. It would fulfill a need at all levels of post-high school instruction. Moreover, it would provide much needed exchange and dissemination of the best ideas in teaching.
