ABSTRACT
Effects of screened manure solids and two levels of crude fiber in rations for lactating cows were studied with 24 Holstein cows from approximately 14 days prepartum until 305 days postpartum. Neither crude fiber percent nor additions of screened manure solids significantly influenced intake of dry matter, total milk, fat-corrected-milk, or percentages of protein or solids-not-fat. Fat percentages were higher for cows fed rations with medium fiber than for those fed rations of low fiber. Rations with up to 41% of the crude fiber derived from screened manure solids maintained fat percentages as well as those without screened manure solids. No health problems or reproductive problems were related to either crude fiber or screened manure solids.
