Appointments...

John G. Parsons, 38, associate professor of dairy science at South Dakota State University, has been named head of the Dairy Science Department. Parsons received B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Manitoba in general and dairy science. In 1968, he completed his Ph.D. at Pennsylvania State in dairy science.

The new department head joined the SDSU staff in 1968 with most of his time devoted to research in dairy and food products. Since 1973 he has carried a 30% assignment in teaching activities. His research projects have included investigations of polar lipids in dairy and related foods, lipid composition, whey utilization by dairy cattle, and studies related to consumer acceptance of dairy and related foods. As head of the Dairy Science Department, Parsons will be responsible for leadership for administering of all department activities in teaching, research, and extension.

He is a member of the American Dairy Science Association, Institute of Food Technologists, and the American Cultured Dairy Products Institute.
