for his dedication as a teacher, agricultural leader, and dairy scientist, the Southern Division ADSA Honors Award for 1978 went to Thomas E. Patrick.
Patrick, a native of Alabama, has had a long and distinguished career of service to the dairy industry throughout the South. After receiving his B.S. degree in vocational agricultural education and dairy production from Louisiana State University in 1938, he taught vocational agriculture for four years. In 1942 he became assistant county agent in Tangipahoa Parish and three years later was promoted to county agent in the Plaquemines Parish. In 1946 he returned to Louisiana State University and obtained his Masters degree in dairy production. He was appointed assistant professor of dairying and assistant dairy husbandman in 1947 and was active in establishment of the artificial breeding program in Louisiana. He aided in the development of the bull stud and formation of the Louisiana Animal Breeding Cooperative and later became its manager.
