When the American Institute of Nutrition holds its annual meeting in Atlantic City, NJ, it will honor four nutritionists for outstanding contributions to the public through nutrition research. The awards ceremony will take place after the annual dinner of the Institute on April 12, 1978
The American Institute of Nutrition is the only professional society of nutrition research scientists in the United States. Its members are elected by their fellow scientists on the basis of demonstrated research competence and productivity in the field of experimental nutrition.
Donald B. McCormick, professor of biochemistry and nutrition, Division of Nutritional Sciences, Cornell University, Ithaca, has been named the 1978 recipient of the Osborne and Mendel Award of the Nutrition Foundation, Inc. The award, consisting of an inscribed scroll and $1000, recognizes contributions to research in nutrition. McCormick is recognized for his important, pioneering work on the metabolism and metabolic functions of several coenzymes derived from essential micronutrients. He has contributed to the knowledge of flavin-protein interactions, notably in monoamine oxidase, succinic dehydrogenase, and pyridoxine phosphate oxidase.
