ABSTRACT
Computerized systems can be developed which lead to greater accessibility of data with reduced cost and lag time. Large volumes of data are needed to justify increased complexity. All systems should be as simple and straightforward as possible. Advantages, constraints, and alternative approaches to use of the computer, methods of data entry, and methods of data storage are presented. Computer systems developed at Beltsville for recording and handling health and reproduction data, milk and milk composition data, and cow location and assignment data are described.
