ABSTRACT

Volume 60 of the Journal of Dairy Science contained 277 scientific reports on 1870 pages of a total publication of 2292 pages (Table 1). Though 347 papers were submitted in 1976, a similar number in 1977, and rejection was about 10%, manuscripts available for publication were limited by unusually slow return of papers from authors and marked increase in frequency of conditionally or potentially acceptable papers not returned at all.

The sought expansion of Our Industry Today yielded 15 contributions published. Since a few of them were from fractured symposia, the section still has potential for increasing its usefulness suggested in J. Dairy Sci. 59: 151. Of the types sought, interpreting applied issues, identifying problems, and summarizing and recommending for wide use by extension, industry, and advisors, the latter achieved the least of its potential. So much material used and distributed locally seems potentially useful regionally or nationally if shared through Our Industry Today. Such contributions are solicited.
