ABSTRACT
Kenneth G. Weckel was born October 5, 1905 in Canton, OH, the son of John and Mary Weckel. He grew up in Canton and graduated from high school there in 1924. For two years he delivered milk for a local dairy 7 days a week. The technology and business of milk processing interested him so he enrolled in the two-year course in the College of Agriculture at the University of Wisconsin in August 1926. He soon discovered the advantages of the curriculum leading to the formal degree. He obtained his B.S., with honors, in 1931.
As an undergraduate he was employed by Professor L. C. Thomsen to do analytical work in the Department of Dairy Husbandry. This led to the beginning of his teaching career for in 1928 he assisted Professors Thomsen and H. H. Sommer in teaching in the Winter Dairy Course. He was encouraged by Dr. H. C. Jackson and other faculty members to continue his education in the graduate school.
