ABSTRACT

Charles A. Lassiter, chairman of the Department of Dairy Science at Michigan State University since 1959, became head of the Department of Animal Science at North Carolina State University on June 1. He succeeded I. D. Porterfield, who headed the department since 1962 and who returns to teaching and research.

Lassiter, 49, is a native of Murray, KY. He has B.S. and M.S. degrees in animal science from the University of Kentucky and a Ph.D. in dairy nutrition from Michigan State. He was on the dairy faculty of the University of Kentucky from 1952 until he joined Michigan State in 1956.

His department at NCSU has about 50 faculty members in teaching, research, and extension work. The department has about 400 undergraduate and 40 graduate students. Another 100 students are enrolled in the two-year Agricultural Institute.

Lassiter is a past director of the American Dairy Science Association. He was the 1958 recipient of the American Feed Manufacturers Award and the 1964 recipient of the Distinguished Nutritionist Award given by the Distiller's Feed Research Council.
