ABSTRACT
A linear-model approach to the analysis of categorical data and tests of hypotheses is presented. The procedures are demonstrated in terms of the problem of ease of calving in either beef or dairy cattle but are also applicable to dairy sire evaluations for some type classification traits. These techniques should be used for categorical data rather than usual analyses of variance which are appropriate for normally distributed data.
