ABSTRACT

Robert J. Collier has joined the faculty of the Dairy Science Department of the University of Florida as an Assistant Professor and Animal Physiologist.

Collier was reared on a farm in mid-central Illinois. Part of his work experience included assisting in the management of a Holstein dairy operation. He attended Eastern Illinois University where he obtained his B.S. degree in 1969. From 1969–71 he was in the United States Army where he attended Combat Medical School and Basic Medical Technology School. He was assigned on-the-job training in nuclear medicine and was trained in the use of isotopes for radio immunoassay and in vivo diagnostic procedures. He received Army commendation and award for volunteer participation in endocrinology research.

After military service he returned to Eastern Illinois University where he obtained a M.S. degree in Zoology in 1973. He attended die University of Illinois for Ph.D. study in Dairy Physiology from 1973–75 and then spent nine months in a post-doctorate (Research Associate) position at Michigan State University working with the effects of Cortisol binding in mammary tissue of the dairy cow.
