Memorial Raymond Albrectsen

ABSTRACT

RAYMOND ALBRECTSEN

Raymond Albrectsen, Professor of Animal Science Emeritus at the New York State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Cornell University, died August 13, 1976, following a long illness. He was 71.

Albrectsen retired November 30, 1969, following 31 yr on the College staff where he provided leadership in programs to improve dairy cattle through artificial insemination, dairy genetics, and type evaluation.

He helped organize the first dairy cattle breeding association in the state and became its first president. He was instrumental in establishing the New York Artificial Breeders' Cooperative and assisted in its later merger with New England units.

Born in Chicago, Albrectsen grew up on a farm near Marathon, NY, and later, with his wife Louise, who survives him, established a Holstein-Friesian herd at Ray-Lou Farm near Ithaca. They sold the farm in 1972 and continued to live near the farm on Dubois Road, Trumansburg, NY.

In January, Albrectsen was honored by the New York Friesian Association, Inc., "for his outstanding achievements in the dairy industry," and was appointed treasurer of the Association for 1976 to 1977.
