Journal of Dairy Science for 1975 and Editorial Comments

Lon D. McGilliard, Editor

Michigan State U., East Lansing 48824

ABSTRACT

Symposia occupied over one-fifth of the pages of Volume 58. We published 15 symposia of 50 papers (Table 1). This contribution increased time from submitting to publishing manuscripts as publication waits for the last contributor to complete. General time of manuscripts in waiting increased, but this will be reduced to respectable by increasing pages in early issues of Volume 59.

Numbers of manuscripts received in 1971 to 1975 were 344, 340, 277, 352, and 292. Acceptance for publication increased from 78 to 82% through 1974. The process of double review averaged about 3 mo for papers accepted after first appraisal. Review of papers requiring reappraisal averaged about 7 mo. Well prepared manuscripts are in final processing within 45 days of receipt.

Major changes in the journal are the change to composition within the office of ADSA, expansion of Our Industry Today by emphasizing applications and reviews especially useful to readers whose activities are not research, and transfer of publication of abstracts of papers from annual meetings from the journal to a separate proceedings.
