Body Length, Head Circumference, and Weight of Bovine Fetuses: Prediction of Gestational Age

J. L. Thomsen

Department of Anthropology, University Institute of Forensic Medicine, Copenhagen, Denmark

ABSTRACT

Ninety fetuses from 82 pregnant uteri from Red Danish and Holstein cows were collected at a slaughterhouse. Fetal weights, body length, and head circumference were measured. Correlations were linear between log weight and log length, log weight and log head circumference, and log body length and log head circumference. From these relationships a method of calculating fetal age was derived.
