ABSTRACT

George H. Wise, William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor, Department of Animal Science, North Carolina State University (NCSU), retired on December 31, 1974. His retirement ended 25 yr of teaching and research in animal nutrition at NCSU. He joined the faculty at NCSU in 1949 as leader and professor of animal nutrition in the Department of Animal Science. In 1951 he was named a William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor, a title he held throughout his tenure at North Carolina State University.

Wise served a total of 37 yr in his field. He received his Ph.D. degree in Dairy Production and Agricultural Biochemistry at the University of Minnesota in 1936. During the next 7 yr he was Associate Dairy Husbandryman at Clemson College (now Clemson University). The next 3 yr he was Associate Professor in Dairying at Kansas State University. He then became Associate Professor in Dairy Production at Iowa State University for 2 yr which immediately preceeded his employment at NCSU. He was bom in Saluda County, SC.
