Status of the Journal of Dairy Science for 1974 and Editorial Comments

Lon D. McGilliard, Editor-in-Chief

ABSTRACT

Pages of Volume 57 continued the decrease of preceding volumes. The distribution of contents in Table 1 has fewer scientific papers from Dairy Foods Division than previously. Pages of scientific material decreased from Vol. 56 about 90 while nonscientific pages increased about 50. With the larger number of manuscripts submitted in 1974, we should increase the proportion of scientific pages in Vol. 58.

Efforts of the editorial staff toward superior presentation of reports of research continue to be hampered by failure of authors to adhere to editorial instructions. The waste of energy and time by editors, reviewers, and authors cannot be accepted when authors so easily could offer manuscripts enjoyable to read. Most troublesome are abstracts of presentations at annual meetings which are carelessly prepared and unreviewed. Lacking time and skill to rewrite these, we are forced to choose between printing inferior reports or rejecting abstracts; the latter currendy is favored.
