John K. Loosli, in the Department of Animal Science at the New York State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Cornell University, for 36 years, was named professor of animal nutrition emeritus when he retired July 1.
A researcher and teacher of graduate students, Loosli has prepared more than 400 scientific and popular publications dealing with animal nutrition.
He has researched protein and amino acid nutrition, antibiotics as feed additives, requirements and functions of several vitamins and mineral elements, nutritional requirements and efficiency of milk production, fat in the rations of lactating cows, use of urea as a protein substitute, and economy of animal agriculture in the production of human food.
He has been nationally recognized for his research with three awards, The American Feed Manufacturer's Awars in Animal Nutrition, ADSA's Borden Award in Dairy Production, and the Morrison Award.
Approximately 50 graduate students received their training under his guidance.
