On May 28, 1974, The American Dairy Science Association lost one of its most distinguished members. Paul Hubert Tracy served our association as Chairman of the Manufacturing Section, Director, Vice President, President, and Editor of the Journal of Dairy Science. He was the recipient of the Association's two most prestigious awards, the Borden Award for Research in Dairy Manufacturing; and the Award of Honor, the highest recognition given to a member.
Tracy was born in Paris, Illinois, on November 2, 1894. He entered the College of Agriculture at the University of Illinois in 1914 and received his BS degree in 1920. His studies were interrupted between 1917 and 1919 by military service. He received his MS and Ph.D. degrees in Dairy Husbandry in 1922 and 1930. He was appointed Assistant in Dairy Manufacturing in 1920 and advanced in rank to Professor of Dairy Technology. He retired in 1959.
Paul Hubert Tracy's professional career encompassed the full spectrum of service which may be rendered by a professor at a land-grant institution: teaching, research and extension.
