ABSTRACT

Herbert Blair Henderson, Head of the Dairy Science Department at the University of Georgia, Retires on August 31, 1974 after serving the university for more than 33 years.

Henderson received his B.S.A. in Dairy Science at the University of Tennessee in 1932. He remained there as an instructor until 1935 when he went to the University of Vermont for his M.S. degree, then returned to the University of Tennessee as assistant professor and research associate in 1936.

The Dairy Science Department was formed at the University of Georgia in 1941 with Henderson as head of the department. With care, imagination, and hard work he nurtured growth of the faculty and student body. The department grew in numbers, influence, and importance. The previously developed dairy science option in sanitary science was expanded to an Environmental Health Science Degree program in 1971.

One of Professor Henderson's major interests has been student counseling.
