ABSTRACT
Four percents of methionine hydroxy analog were fed to 36 lactating Holstein cows in a switch-back experiment of four treatments. The analog contents of the four grain mixtures for treatments I, II, III, and IV were 0. .3, .4, and .5%. The basal ration of corn silage and hay was group-fed ad libitum. Means of the respective treatments were: analog intake 0, 16.59, 23.20, 27.85 g/day and fat-corrected milk 15.8, 16.0, 16.2, 16.1 kg/day. No advantage was found from feeding analog as measured by milk yield, milk fat, or solids-not-fat. No differences were significant among treatments for fatty acid composition of the milk fat.
