ABSTRACT

James S. Edwards at Kansas State University and Daniel M. Schaefer at the University of Illinois recently were awarded $4,000 Research Fellowships by Ralston-Purina Company for the 1974–75 academic year. They will be pursuing research in dairy cattle nutrition. These men were selected, along with four others in different animal science fields, from a group of over 50 highly qualified applicants from the United States and Canada. The selection was made by a committee representing animal, dairy, poultry, and veterinary sciences. Each of the awardees submitted applications showing outstanding academic achievement, important extracurricular interests and activities, and a research proposal indicative of good scientific potential.

Edwards is from Newton, Mississippi, where he was reared on a large dairy farm. He received numerous awards in 4-H dairy achievement, judging, and demonstration contests, being first in state and fourth in national judging contests. He was president of the Mississippi State 4-H Council.
