Claude Cruse, Executive Secretary of the American Dairy Science Asssociation, has been featured in "The Making of the Association Manager" published in the February/March 1974 Association & Society Manager. Mr. Cruse also handles the business affairs of four other societies: American Society of Animal Science, Society for the Study of Reproduction, Weed Science Society of America, and International Water Resources Association.
Mr. Cruse's roots in association management grew from his affiliation with a publishing firm where he handled publications for several associations. When ADSA decided to establish a national office, the board approached Cruse, who had acted as liason between the printer of the Journal of Dairy Science and the Association. In 1966 he accepted, and national headquarters were established in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Because the office was well-staffed and the equipment was not used to its full capacity, at Cruse's suggestion ADSA decided to perform services for other organizations. In 1970 ASAS acquired ADSA's services, SSR contracted for them in 1971, WSSA in 1973, and IWRA in 1974.
