John Harvey Bryant, a leading Australian and world renowned dairy technologist, died in Sydney January 16, 1974.
He was Chairman of Directors of the Brisbane-based national manufacturing and marketing company, Q.U.F. Industries Ltd., with interests in ice cream, milk, frozen foods, fisheries, wine, ceramics, and hardware. He was also Chairman of Directors of Bell, Bryant Limited, Express Dairy Company (Australia) Pty. Ltd., and APV (Australia) Pty. Ltd., and was a Director of Diversey (Australasia) Pty. Ltd.
Born at Vaucluse, Sydney, on April 5, 1903, Bryant was educated at Sydney Grammar School and graduated from the Hawkesbury Agricultural College, New South Wales, with a diploma in agriculture with the College Honors Medal in 1922. He was a pioneer of many new processes and products in the Australian dairy industry, particularly in the pasteurization of milk supplies throughout Australia. He traveled abroad extensively and represented Australia at many international dairy exhibitions and conventions in Britain, throughout Europe, and in the United States of America.
